Painting Tiny Clouds

Night Chef Watercolor Process

One of my teachers explained to me that inking is moving a drop of water across the paper. This is a really helpful way to look painting washes of color. Just move the drop of water from one end to the other before it dries out. So here I am dragging a globule of water over the white and making sure to keep some parts dry and cloud-shaped.

I will be drawing Moomintrolls with families at the Brooklyn Public Library this Saturday. I discovered Moominvalley when I was in fourth grade. I found these old cloth-bound copies of the books on the shelves. The titles were strange and I cracked them open and fell in love with the illustrations and the characters. No one else I knew had read these books. Was I the only person in the world who wanted to wake up to the smell of Moominmamas breakfast and stand in the garden looking at the mirror ball? Turns out not at all! I’ll make sure to post some of the Moomins we draw.

Here are events I will be at in October:
