Crows in Night Chef

Drawing a Crow Roost

Even though Night Chef is a work of fiction, I am inspired by the real world and use non-fiction research to find many of my writing ideas. Here is some information about crow roosts that I used in Night Chef.

If you are interested in learning more about the mysterious roost, check out the article “Poughkeepsie’s Massive Crow Roost” by Jacqueline Dooley. It has some good videos and photos of crows.

I’m counting the days until October 28. You can still pre-order a signed copy that will come with an original ink drawing on sketchbook paper. Thank you to everyone who has already pre-ordered from World’s Borough Bookshop in Queens.

Night Chef has been selected to be part of the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show!

Once a year in the middle of winter, hundreds of illustrators and agents and editors crowd into the narrow upper east side townhouse(?) to celebrate being part of a long history of hard working children’s book makers. It gets really warm in there but it will be exciting to see these watercolor comics panels empty word balloons and all hanging in the show.

And if you are interested in owning some of these watercolors, I will be selling pages of original art from Night Chef in the fall through Athenaeum Comic Art Shop. More about that in the upcoming weeks…
